世上最可怕的事情，不是被悲傷擊垮，而是無法從悲傷中站起來……查理(亞當(dāng)·桑德勒 Adam Sandler飾)是一個9•11的直接受害者，他的妻兒和愛狗都在這場災(zāi)難中喪生。查理從此一蹶不振，嚴(yán)重的自閉抑郁。他已經(jīng)習(xí)慣了每天踩著電動滑車，戴著大耳機(jī)在街頭行尸走肉般游蕩，心靈巨大的創(chuàng)傷讓他回歸不了正常的生活。
　　艾倫（唐·錢德爾 Don Cheadle 飾）則是一個表面看來非常幸福的男人，有成功的事業(yè)和美滿的家庭，然而他承受的生活壓力是常人無法理解的，他的內(nèi)心在暗暗苦撐。
　　直到有一天，艾倫在街頭遇上了查理。得知這個老同學(xué)為何變得如此頹唐后，艾倫心里便下定決心也幫他一把，讓他從低谷中走出來。他們一起談心，游戲，慢慢的發(fā)現(xiàn)彼此的心靈都從窒息中蘇醒過來。
