超過40年的搖滾歷練，艾力克萊普頓贏得了18座葛萊美獎的喝采，他是史上唯一以3個樂團或歌手的身份入列「搖滾名人殿堂」的搖滾歌手，他在1960年代初期就與日后的吉他英雄Jimmy Page/吉米佩吉、日后變成齊柏林飛船樂團的大將、Jeff Beck/杰夫貝克在The Yardbirds樂團中過招，隨后轉進匯集了藍調搖滾豪杰的超級樂團John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers，然后再接連組成Cream/奶油樂團、Blind Faith/盲目信仰樂團等超級搖滾天團，還穿梭於披頭四、滾石合唱團、巴布狄倫、吉米罕醉克斯的專輯錄音或是現場演出。自1970年代起，艾力克萊普頓開始獨闖高手如云的搖滾叢林，陸續以'Layla'、'I Shot The Sheriff'、'Lay Down Sally'、'Wonderful Tonight'等暢銷單曲揚威樂壇。進入90年代后，他走過吸毒的幽谷，還有喪子的陰霾，以'Tears In Heaven'、'Change The World'兩度拿下葛萊美3項大獎，還以不插電演唱專輯『Unplugged』狂銷千萬張。跨越21世紀后，仍藉由與藍調國寶B.B.
