2月28日，第21屆冬季奧林匹克運動會閉幕式在加拿大溫哥華不列顛哥倫比亞體育館舉行。
　　
在云霧繚繞的雪山之下，奧林匹克圣火緩緩熄滅。第21屆冬奧會在見證了奧運的繁榮和運動的激情后，于28日晚在加拿大溫哥華市中心的不列顛哥倫比亞體育館盛裝閉幕。 有些瞬間留下烙印，有些面孔值得銘記，有些話語等待回味。

本屆冬奧會是奧林匹克大家庭在冬季里最大規模的一次團聚，在歷時17天的比賽中，約2600名運動員在溫哥華和惠斯勒參加了7個大項、15個分項和86個小項的比賽。本屆冬奧會上誕生的兩項世界紀錄全部出自短道速滑賽場，并且全部由中國運動員創造。

“東道主效應”再次在奧運賽場上得到印證，上屆冬奧會排獎牌榜第五位的加拿大代表團這次在家門口以14金7銀5銅榮登榜首，而且打破了從未在本土舉行的奧運會上奪得金牌的“魔咒”。冬季運動傳統強國德國、美國和挪威排在第二至第四位，成為領跑的第一集團。
