《加州之王》原聲由David Robbins作曲。該片講述了一位篤信郊外埋藏著當年西班牙人的金塊的瘋癲父親，絞盡腦汁逃出精神病院挖寶的故事。9月初現身的文藝小品、發行方乃申奧經驗不多的小公司、導演亦屬初出茅廬的新手，可謂天時地利一樣不占。不過，去年同期與該片地位十分相似的《半個納爾遜》卻一舉貢獻出史上最年輕的影帝提名(雷恩·高斯林，與《斷背山》的希斯·萊杰并列26歲)，故由衷期待這部黑馬相十足的輕喜劇能再放衛星

除了對于寶藏的執著尋找，這位瘋狂的父親同樣也固執的迷戀著爵士音樂，因此原聲配樂中大多都是這一風格。先是慵懶的調調，正如一直以來家人對于這個瘋狂男人的一直印象，可是當故事繼續，我們看到了一個生長在傳說中自由國度中的一位國王，一個真正的自由者。這是的曲調也在烘托著這一轉變，讓人們看到了一位父親的愛。
