老版《殺出狂人鎮》由僵尸大師喬治·A·羅梅羅于1973年拍攝，講述了一種不知名的秘密生化武器，在賓夕法尼亞小鎮的飲用水源里突然出現，這個事故直接導致了整個小鎮的恐慌，原來，是有一個蓄意破壞的殺手在暗中使壞。翻拍版的《殺出狂人鎮》繼續沿用了這個故事，但在故事處理上會更加駭人，殺手制造的這種病毒不僅能讓人斃命，同時還會讓人神經錯亂，為了阻止災難的發生，軍方最后使出了非常手段。當然，在殺手與軍方、小鎮居民對抗的過程中亦發生了意想不到的事。新版保持了原作的氣韻，但卻更像一部商業運作下生產的恐怖片，不若舊作充滿了獨立品質。
　　
新版《殺出狂人鎮》的導演布瑞克·埃斯納爾，是好萊塢70后的新銳導演之一，2005年曾與馬修·麥康納和佩內洛普·克魯茲合作了冒險喜劇片《撒哈拉騎兵》。男主角蒂莫西·奧利芬特，最近幾年開始活躍在眾多商業大片中，《虎膽龍威4》、《殺手代號47》、《止損》。
