作為一款科幻題材的射擊類游戲，《光暈》在微軟的游戲主機XBOX上擁有超高人氣，目前共推出了三代游戲以及一款即時戰略游戲《光暈戰爭》。《光暈》游戲的故事發生在2552年，地球已經由名叫“聯合國太空指揮總署”（UNSC）的聯合政府進行行政管理，人類面對的敵人是被稱為“星盟”（Covenant）的外星生物?！豆鈺灐?代的故事開始，人類的旗艦“秋之柱號”（Pillar of Autumn）由于受到星盟的攻擊，艦上人員不得不棄艦逃生，迫降在太空中的一個巨型環狀帶上，也就是“光暈”（Halo）。游戲玩家控制的角色，便是人類“超級戰士”計劃的成功作品：士官長（Master Chief）。他有著比普通人類突擊隊員更強的作戰和生存能力，并擁有更厚的護甲和能量護盾。士官長在“光暈”上開始與星盟的外星生物和被稱作Flood的寄生生物展開戰斗。

　　《光暈戰爭》則是光暈系列的前傳，講述了殖民船“火之精神”（Spirit of Fire）在星際旅途中到訪“豐饒星”（Harvest），并在該行星上意外獲得古代文物，但在那里UNSC部隊第一次遭遇“星盟”的攻擊，這些外星種族甚至揚言要消滅人類。游戲玩家要帶領“火之精神”的人類和斯巴達軍隊，投入到與星盟的全面戰爭中。所謂“斯巴達戰士”（Spartan）指的是超級特種兵的一種精英作戰單位，裝備了令人望而生畏的裝甲，是人造的終極兵種。

　　動畫版《光暈：傳奇》將對《光暈》游戲劇情作怎樣的補充和延展，值得《光暈》游戲迷們關注。此外，早在三年前微軟便欲將這部看家大作推上大銀幕，還宣布將由彼得·杰克遜監制，并由彼得欽點的尼爾·布洛姆坎普執導，之后影片卻一直開拍遙遙無期。這次動畫版的推出讓游戲迷和影迷再次將目光投向這款著名游戲，讓人不禁遐想：《光暈》真人電影到底還有多遠.
