這個(gè)故事早在1979年就由Stephen Sondheim（普利策獎(jiǎng)和奧斯卡最佳原創(chuàng)歌曲的得主）改編成為百老匯歌舞劇，是長(zhǎng)盛不衰的經(jīng)典劇目，贏得過(guò)八座Tony獎(jiǎng)，至今仍然在紐約重演。

一部關(guān)于善良的好人變成連環(huán)殺手的歌劇。多年來(lái)，好萊塢的不少導(dǎo)演都曾經(jīng)對(duì)這個(gè)劇目表示過(guò)濃厚的興趣——Alan Parker（“Evita”《貝隆夫人》）說(shuō)自己早在80年代便有此意愿；Sam Mendes曾與本片的編劇John Logan策劃過(guò)改編拍攝，但之后由于轉(zhuǎn)投Jarhead（鍋蓋頭）的拍攝而不了了之。

制作團(tuán)隊(duì)：

2006年夏天，在制作Jim Carey的新片“Ripley's Believe It or Not”暫時(shí)擱淺后，Burton突然宣布了拍攝“Sweeney Todd”的計(jì)劃——他早有意愿，卻苦無(wú)腳本，并且很快說(shuō)服了Depp加盟。這次的聯(lián)手已經(jīng)是這對(duì)黃金拍檔的第六次合體了（之前的合作包括《查理與巧克力工廠》、《僵尸新娘》、《斷頭谷》、《艾德伍德》、《剪刀手艾德華》）。影片預(yù)算為5000萬(wàn)美元，拍攝周期僅為60天！

制作人包括了Walter Parkes、 Laurie MacDonald 、Richard Zanuck 、 John Logan 。其中Logan也是本片的編劇。

Walter Parkes和Laurie MacDonald兩位曾經(jīng)聯(lián)手為夢(mèng)工廠推出了多部叫好又叫座的作品——《角斗士》、《黑衣人》系列、《午夜兇鈴》美國(guó)版系列、以及跟斯皮爾伯格合作的《貓鼠游戲》、《少數(shù)派報(bào)告》、《幸福終點(diǎn)站》。

本片是奧斯卡得主（《為戴茜小姐開(kāi)車(chē)》）、知名制作人Richard Zanuck與夢(mèng)工廠的第三次合作，之前的兩部作品是《天地大沖撞》、《毀滅之路》；同時(shí)這也是Richard繼《查理與巧克力工廠》后再度與Burton和Depp一起工作。

而John Logan筆下的知名作品則包括了《飛行家》、《最后的武士》、《角斗士》（獲奧斯卡最佳原創(chuàng)劇本提名）等。
